About This Repair Shop

Keeping the Northland Productive Since 1983

In Kansas City, the line between a suburban backyard and a hobby farm can be thin, and Northland Feed has spent over forty years standing right in the middle of it. Since 1983, Jim and Theresa Platt have operated this Brighton Avenue staple as a true hybrid: one part expert small engine repair shop and one part essential feed and supply store. It’s the kind of place where you can pick up a bale of hay and get your chainsaw chain sharpened in the same twenty-minute visit.

Serving the Northland community with informed confidence, our team understands that your equipment isn't just a luxury—it’s how you get your Saturday back. Whether you’re a professional landscaper running a fleet of commercial mowers or a homeowner trying to coax a legacy snowblower back to life, we bring decades of mechanical intuition to every diagnostic.

Small Engine Mastery and Maintenance

We believe a repair shop should do more than just swap parts; it should solve problems. Our technicians, like Matt and Brian, are known for their honest assessments—if a machine is worth saving, we’ll get it running (sometimes faster than promised); if the cost doesn't justify the repair, we’ll tell you straight. We specialize in the technical nuances of high-performance brands like Hustler, Shindaiwa, Echo, and RedMax.

Our Specialized Maintenance and Repair Services:

  • Rapid Tire Service: Expert leak detection and rim mounting for riding mowers.
  • Fuel System Recovery: Deep cleaning for carburetors and fuel line replacements.
  • Cutting Edge Service: Professional sharpening for chainsaw chains and mower blades.
  • Full Engine Diagnostics: Ignition system repair and tune-ups for Honda, Kawasaki, and Kohler engines.
  • Pick-up & Delivery: Convenient transport for larger equipment within the local area.

The Northland Feed Edge

What sets us apart is our massive on-site inventory. While big-box stores might leave you waiting weeks for a specific spring or filter, we take pride in having those "hard-to-find" components in stock right now. As a certified dealer for professional-grade tools, we even back our sales with impressive local warranties that keep you working long after the purchase.

We are a "small-town" shop in the heart of the city. We’ve built a reputation for being the place that helps you find the part you actually need, rather than the one you thought you needed. That honesty is why families have been trusting us with their equipment and their animals for two generations.

A Neighborhood Pillar

The vibe at Northland Feed is busy, helpful, and deeply rooted in the community. You might find us swamped with customers on a Friday before a holiday, yet we still take the time to register a new trimmer for a customer or show a novice how to maintain their chainsaw bar. We’re dog lovers, hobby farmers, and mechanics who treat every customer like royalty.

We are located just off I-35 and open at 8:00 AM to help you get a head start on your chores. Whether you’re here for the "critter food" or a full mower overhaul, we look forward to making your hard work a little bit easier.

Professional riding mower repair service at Northland Feed, Kansas City. Quick and excellent service. I have been searching for a Shindaiwa trimmer for a while. Northland is one of the few dealers in the area and had a fresh shipment. The team was friendly and very helpful. They registered my product, set me up with the proper accessories and priced the trimmer right at market price. I will be returning to them for my service and yard needs.

This "small town" local shop offers an incredible selection of outdoor tools and parts, including hard-to-find components that other dealers simply don’t carry. Moderate lawn mower tune-up service from Northland Feed in Kansas City. Go to place for all my lawn equipment maintenance. They sharpen mower blades and saw chains for pick up next day. Have minor parts in stock for repairs, or can order most parts quickly! Employees are very helpful and patient. Much appreciated because I'm a novice with repairs and upkeep of yard equipment. My favorite part about this business is I witnessed employees going above and beyond to assist customers in some way. If it wasn't for northland feed, I'd still be working in my chain saw .... thanks for the help and expertise!!!!!

This is a small family owned feed and small engine repair store. I've bought all my critter food here for many years. I also only took my lawn mower here, when I had one and it needed repairs. They are good, friendly and fair folks. I recommend if you haven't checked in here for your bulk bird (wild and caged) , dog, squirrel, hamster, pig or rat food, I highly recommend stopping in. It may surprise you how much $ you can save. Absolutely the best lawn equipment repair in Kansas City!
